Fake RCMP officers calling Canadians from spoofed Newfoundland police numbers

Callers claiming to be RCMP officers in Newfoundland and Labrador tell people they are victims of a financial scam and try to collect personal and banking details. The calls appear to come from numbers starting with (709) 772, and follow-up emails come from addresses like firstname.lastname@rcmp.gov, which the RCMP says are fake. Reports have come in from across Canada.

What to do: The RCMP will never ask you to move money, give remote access to your computer, or send personal details by text or email. Hang up and call your local detachment yourself.
